Naxos Wedding | Marina & Alessandro
Having spent many years in Greece (and now living here), I have never had the opportunity to visit Paros’s neighbouring island. Needless to say that when Marina & Alessandro asked me to photograph their Naxos wedding, I was beyond excited! The couple are originally from Italy, but have chosen this beautiful Greek island for their wedding after spending many summer vacations here with friends.
Only an hour away by ferry from Paros, Naxos is the largest and most fertile of the Cyclades islands. It is very popular amongst tourist for its natural beauty and pristine beaches. One of these beaches is Agia Anna, a 1.2km strip of white sand next to crystal clear water, where Marina and Alessandro decided to have their wedding vows. Upon arriving at Paradiso Suites where they both were getting ready, it was evident that they were extremely relaxed. Whilst guests were strolling back and forth to the beach, the bride had her hair and make-up done and the groom had some fun playing in the swimming pool with friends.
Both very stylishly dressed in Italian fashion labels, they were walked to the ceremony together with traditional Greek musicians leading the way. As friends and family looked on, they said their vows in a short civil ceremony with the blue Aegean waters as a backdrop. After the ceremony they were treated to a champagne reception on the beach, as congratulations and celebrations with friends and family started. It was quite clear that this was an energetic and lively bunch – setting the tone nicely for the rest of the evening. Before we started making our way over to Banana Beach Bar Restaurant for the wedding reception, I managed to whisk the couple away for a few portraits during an incredible sunset.
The ceremony decor done by Kallina Coordinators were true to the couple – very natural and not over the top. The impressive wooden wedding arch was very simply decorated and reminded me of the Portara which is a very significant historical monument on the island. Starfish decorated the chairs, with seashells and flower petals as table decorations. I also have to confess that I think the wedding favours were the most original and practical I have ever seen at a wedding: handmade leather Greek sandals by Pagonis, with the logo of Kallina, the island and wedding date embossed on the soles – absolutely stunning and original.
Banana Beach Bar is also located on Agia Anna, right on the beach. We were greeted by hostess Maria upon our arrival and I was blown away by the very contemporary and stylish, yet very Greek, interior. The decor theme from the ceremony was continued as starfish and shells decorated the tables, with lanterns provided warm, but subtle lighting. The food and ambiance were fantastic, with very joyful chatter and laughter filling the air. After dinner there were some speeches before the couple cut the cake and the dance floor was opened. With the DJ churning out floor-filler tunes, everybody was soon on their feet dancing the night away until the early hours of the morning.
It was great to have worked with such a nice couple, and the very organised and friendly team of Kallina. My first Naxos wedding photography experience has been fantastic and I am looking forward to many more in the future. But for now, I will leave you to enjoy looking at the photos 🙂
