Nikos and Afroditi tied the knot in a traditional Greek wedding ceremony last summer on Paros, towards the end of June to be exact which is my favourite time of year to be on the Greek Islands. With Paros wedding planner Mimmika Liakou-Papoutsaki at the helm, the details and venues for their wedding were fantastic, and of course it all flowed seamlessly!

The church ceremony took place at Langari beach, just outside of the fishing village of Naoussa, truly a beautiful setting for a Paros wedding. Add in the golden hour just before sunset and you cannot ask for a more picturesque backdrop. With the church itself beautifully decorated with striking pink peonies and thick, rustic nautical ropes, we all waited for the arrival of the bride. Then, from behind the fields, came the sound of hooting and  she appeared around the corner – standing at the back of an open-top Jeep! What a way to make an entrance! Wearing the most beautiful dress and the golden sun lighting her, she truly looked like a Greek goddess.

During the Greek wedding ceremony it was apparent that this couple is madly in love – the way they kept glancing at each other, the tender affection between them and sharing in the odd giggle. Towards the end of the ceremony, as is the tradition with Greek weddings, the guests threw rice at the couple as a symbol of them growing old together and blessing them with fertility. Although it seemed some of the guests were being more than abundant with their blessings! The rice rained down on them whilst they were led around the altar, with the priest even taking cover from the rice storm.

After the ceremony, the party moved to Nava Lounge & Restaurant at the nearby beach of Santa Maria. With the venue elegantly decorated, the bride and groom arrived to loud cheering from their friends and family and had their first dance together. Everyone was then treated to delicious food, after which the party kicked off until the early hours of the morning (or should I say, the very early hours of the morning). It was nothing less than a pleasure to have shared in such a beautiful and fulfilled wedding.
